Love: Day 6 - Jesus

Matthew 2:13-15

This may seem like an odd Scripture passage for this study, but I believe the way that Mary and Joseph cared for Jesus has a lot to teach us about receiving the love of God. God’s love is comforting and protective, so what better way to illustrate that than through the care for a helpless infant?

Joseph kept the baby Jesus safe from the peril of Herod. Jesus was not an active participant in his being hidden from danger. His father did it. God wants to save us from danger as well. But for some reason, that is often hard for us to accept.

We must always remember that God’s love is comforting and protective. Sometimes our issues with receiving love come from past trauma and disappointments, but we can’t let that deter us from receiving the gift that God wants to give us. In this season, while you are thinking about getting gifts for everyone else, stop for a moment and allow yourself to receive the love of the Father.

Reflection

Morning Pause: Focus on the fact that our God is a perfect and loving Father. He wants to keep you from danger today. Thank God for the ways that He has protected you in the past, and ask God to comfort you throughout today.

Afternoon Pause: What are some of the things you struggle to receive from God? Is it hard to trust Him? Part of having childlike faith means knowing that your Father knows best and that He’ll withhold no good thing from you. Rest in that.

Evening Pause: What did God give you today? Was there joy, peace, or love? Was there laughter, friendship, or provision? Take stock of all you received today and thank the Lord for it. And thank Him for the fact that you have access to all of these gifts each and every day you walk with Him.
